Technology – Hard Materials

Today was our last session of our technology class. In hard materials everybody was almost finished with their pendant, while I had just finished my work book since I had missed some classes and didnt have my chrome book for most of the classes.

Mr Grundy was genorus enough to give me a unfinished pendant that I could finish, it was a lot of work sanding the pendant , When I finished using the first sand paper Mr Grundy gave me I thought I had completed and thought Mr grundy would start polishing it but I was wrong because he gave me another sand paper to make the pendant more smooth.

I kept sanding the pendant till it was smooth but it was still not smooth, just then the bell rung and I ran out of time. Being in hard materials was actually cool making our own penddants.

Technology – Hard Marterials

A few weeks back our technology classes changed, my class before was graphics but now I’m in hard marterials. Our teacher was a ‘he’ and his name was Mr Grundy or just Sir, on the first week he was only showing us what and how things work, some examples of things the older students have made and some rules.

On the second week Mr Grundy showed us how to make a pendant it took quite long but it was worth it because after, when Mr Grundy was done, the pendant that he made for an example looked so nice. We wanted to make one ourselves but before we could, we had to come up with 4 people and write down what they like then we had to find images like silhouettes to match what they like.

The next two weeks we still were working on who we wanted to make the pendant for and what the person/s liked, it quite difficult to think of who and what the person liked but eventually I got it. Next week ill be starting to make my pendant.

Technology – Graphics

This week we just continued on with our seecond booklet.

I already completed designing my chracters for my story, and all I needed to do was my writing.                 I planned to do a family who moved from the islands to New zealand and that they didn’t know what matariki was.

Miss Spark then told us that we’d have to do another booklet when we comeback for tech next term, we’d have to really make our own book about matariki.

Towards the end of class we played a game called “collabrative writing” . You have to grab a piece of paper and write something down then you scrunch itand put it in the middle of the table thenyou grab a different piece of paper and continue on another persons story.

I can’t wait to go back next term!.

Fun run!

This is the second run of this year.

Glen Taylor, Panmure distirct and Glen Innes school had a run up Mt Wellington, Before everyone got there they were first divided into 6 groups.

Everyone had to wait untill most of the teachers went up to take down our all our times, it took quietlong but atleast we had time to do warm ups since it was rainy and cold, the first group that went first was group 1, most of them were sprinting and since the start was steep there energy was running low.

Then after group 1, 2, 3 and 4 went it was finally group 5’s turn, group 5 & 6 were ther fastest groups.

While jogging up the hill my calves were hurting but I just started to walk backwards and it felt abit better, when we saw the other students I thought we were done so I just ran but they were suddenly telling us to go up the stairs.

I felt like giving  up already it felt like I was carrying a horse on my back.

We finally finished when we got to the centre, when our time was taken down we had to go back down and get a water bottle and a sausage sizzle, after mostly everyone had eaten, all schools  started toplay a game of touch it looked cool but I didn’t want to play I was already tired, after all that we went back to school my legs were sore but it felt abit better afterwards.

Technology Graphics

Today in Tech, we started off by completing our posters about Matariki from last week, I had cut out letters spelling “Matariki” and glued it to the top of my A4 black paper.

I then added 7 stars to my poster, some people believe there is 9 stars but I did 7 because it was easier and it didn’t take up time. so after about 10 minutes or so I started to make a rainbow, I don’t know how a rainbow is related to Matarik but I just did it to make it look nice because it had a lot of bright colours.

After that I wonderd how I would make fireworks and glue it on the paper, I thought of it and I chose to cut thin pieces of paper from the colour pink and yellow, I placed it on top of eachother and spread it around imaging it as a circle.

The bell rang so I didn’t have time to do another firework, so I tidy up where I was working and headed off back to the bus.

Technology

When we arrived at Tamaki College Miss spark was already waiting for us, we got sraight into our booklets once we got to class.

I’ve completed my first booklet so I had gotten another one, we were gonna make a book about matariki, so we brain stormed it first, after that we created our chracters that we were gonna put in the story. Miss spark then said to gather around the table so we could share some ideas with eachother.

Towards the end of the lesson Miss Spark played a drawing game with us, there was three people that get a whiteboard marker, they would go to the corner of the room and Miss would whisper something for them to draw the people that don’t have a marker have to guess what it is, this game was fun and I hoped to play it again sometime.

The Dawn Raids

Last week we learnt about the dawn raids and the polynesian panthers.

in 1960’s It was about how the New zealand goverment told the pacific islanders that they could come here for labour, but overtime the pakeha people started not wanting them here they thought the pacific islanders were stealing their jobs, so now some of the islanders can only come here on a visa, some last 3 months, but when it expires not everyone returns back to where they came from, and thats how police started to called us “overstayers”.

As islanders we needed jobs to provide for our familys in the islands since the pay wasn’t as big as it is here in New Zealand, the immigration people and the police would come to peoples houses very early in the morning to search for overstayers, some had already prepared a hiding spot in the house since the house was surrounded by the police and immigration people and they couldn’t escape. Then islanders made a group called polynesian panthers there were only young people like 16-20 year olds, they would go to the pakehas houses early in the morning and start flashsing their flash lights towards the house and shouting, and when they see the lights turn on they would start their cars and drive away.

Technology – Graphics

This week at Tech we just did the same thing as last weeks, but when we complete the first booklet we got, we got another booklet.

This booklet was about us brain storming about what our own book would be about Matariki. I planned to do things like people all over theworld celebrating matariki, family watching the sunrise or sunset, go visiting our family that have passed away.

Before class ended we did a quick 10 page quiz of what we learnt about Matariki, the bell rang just right after we completed and we only got 5/10 it wasn’t that bad but it is good for us since we just started to learn about matariki.

Comparing my tests

This week Mrs Petersen made term 2 tests for us on easttle.

The little red circle is me and the blue is the New Zealand average,  in slide 2 and 3 is my reading scores for term 1 and 2 I did abit better than I did last term which is good but overall I still got the same mark.

In slide 4 and 5 is my Easttle number test, I also got the same score as last term this means I really have to get better and try and get a higher score next term.

And the last two slides is my Easttle strand test this term I wasn’t lucky to get a higher or the same score as last term I got more answer wrong than right.

So this term I didn’t work as hard as I was supposed to, most of my scores are the same from last term which is not great. This term and next I would like to work better than I did this term and last term and get a better Easttle score next term.
